Things to Do: Fall Fun Fills the Calendar in Pleasant Hill

Fall is settling into Pleasant Hill, and the community calendar is filling up with everything from murder and mystery to garage-sale treasures, local authors, flowers, and a little painting with wine.

The weekend begins with a mystery. The Pleasant Hill Theatre Group will present Murder on Maui Friday and Saturday, Sept. 18–19. The dinner theatre production combines an evening meal with a live whodunit, giving audience members a chance to follow the clues as the mystery unfolds. Tickets are available through Pleasant Hill Theatre Group.

Saturday morning, Sept. 19, bargain hunters will be out early for Pleasant Hill’s Fall City-Wide Garage Sale. Sales begin at 8 a.m. throughout town, offering plenty of opportunities to hunt for furniture, clothes, collectibles, and those unexpected treasures that make garage-sale shopping fun.

The week continues Monday, Sept. 21, with a visit from author D.L. Rogers at the Cass County Public Library’s Pleasant Hill Branch. Rogers, author of Walt’s War and Murderous Feud, will talk about her life as an author, answer audience questions, and sign copies of her books. The program runs from 6 to 7 p.m., is intended for adults 18 and older, and requires registration.

Gardeners can start Thursday, Sept. 24, with a morning devoted to one of the garden’s longtime favorites. Paula’s Petals Greenhouse & Floral, 33607 E. 199th St., will host an All About Peonies class beginning at 9 a.m. The approximately one-hour class will cover how to plant, grow, and successfully divide peonies. The class is free. Paula’s Petals is located at the second entrance off the main road. For information or registration, contact Paula McCloskey at 816-929-0522.

Thursday evening brings a chance to get creative. Fleming Floral Station and A² Designs will host a kid-friendly Fall Paint Night from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fleming Floral Station, 801 Cedar St. Participants can choose from several fall-inspired designs, including pumpkins, spooky cats, cozy coffee, and classic autumn scenes. No painting experience is needed; step-by-step instruction is provided throughout the evening. The $30 ticket includes an 11-by-14-inch canvas, painting and crafting supplies, snacks, and wine. Seating is limited, so we encourage advance registration. Contact Dani with A² Designs at 816-256-9020 or register online.
