The Creamery Reopens Under Familiar Face
Pleasant Hill has been buzzing with excitement as a long-missed favorite makes its return. The Creamery, once run by Dan Bucher, has reopened its doors under new ownership, but with a familiar face.
Chris Rodriguez, who worked at the Creamery for over six years, is now the proud owner. Many Pleasant Hill residents will recognize him from his time on the wood-fired grill. Starting at just 19 years old, Rodriguez learned the ropes directly from Bucher. “He taught me everything I know,” Rodriguez said. “I started on the fryers, worked my way up, and eventually became the main cook.”
A Smooth Transition
Rodriguez’s years of experience made him the natural successor when Bucher decided to sell. “He could have sold it to anyone,” Rodriguez explained, “but instead he gave me the opportunity. That means a lot. It lets the Creamery stay the Creamery, instead of turning into something completely different.”
Though the restaurant has reopened with ice cream only for now, Rodriguez promises that food will return soon, and hopefully within a month or two once new kitchen equipment is installed and approved. In the meantime, customers are flocking back for sundaes, cones, and kid-favorite flavors like Superman and birthday cake.
Community Favorites Will Return
When the full menu comes back, fans can expect many of the Creamery’s staples—especially the beloved prime rib. Rodriguez plans to bring it back on Friday and Saturday nights, along with salmon and shrimp skewers. “Those were always some of the top items,” he said. “I know people miss them.”
He also plans to adjust pricing to keep meals affordable without sacrificing quality. “I’ve already changed almost all the ice cream prices, and I’ll be doing the same with the food,” Rodriguez said.
More Than Just a Meal
Rodriguez sees the Creamery as more than a place to eat. It’s also a gathering spot for the community. “We have free Wi-Fi and coffee, so people can come in, work on their laptops, or just spend time together,” he said.
He’s already looking for creative ways to involve the community, such as letting customers vote on future ice cream flavors, which will include dairy-free and sugar-free options.
Ribbon Cutting and Looking Ahead
The Creamery will host its official ribbon-cutting this Thursday at 11:00 a.m. While the grand opening is still centered around ice cream, Rodriguez hopes the kitchen upgrades will be complete in time for the holiday season.
For now, Pleasant Hill is simply glad to see a hometown favorite return. “The community has been so supportive,” Rodriguez said. “People tell me all the time how much they missed the Creamery. It feels good to bring it back.”
