From Firehouse Roots to Fairgrounds Stage: Hunter Mounce Set to Shine

Pleasant Hill, Missouri, has always taken pride in its homegrown talent, and in recent years, one name has been making waves well beyond city limits: Hunter Thomas Mounce. The singer-songwriter, whose roots run deep in Pleasant Hill, has carved a unique path balancing the grit of firefighting with the soul of country music.

Small-Town Roots, Big Dreams

Born on June 21, 1994, Hunter Mounce grew up in Pleasant Hill, where the close-knit community and expansive landscapes greatly influenced his perspective. He didn’t initially aspire to fame in Nashville. Instead, Mounce trained as a firefighter, dedicating himself to serving his community. However, in the midst of late-night shifts and the rhythm of small-town life, he picked up a guitar and discovered his talent for storytelling through song.

What began as a spark of interest evolved into a full-fledged career. Today, Mounce balances two passions: working as a firefighter and performing on stage as a country artist. His songs reflect the raw honesty of everyday life.

A Voice for “Folks Like Me and You”

In 2019, Mounce released his debut album, Folks Like Me and You. The record introduced listeners to his signature sound: country with grit, heart, and a touch of Texas influence. Since then, he has steadily built a catalog that blends old-school authenticity with a modern edge.

Songs like Stuck, Way Too Much, and Under the Table showcase his ability to turn personal stories into anthems for working people. His recent single, Good as Gone (2025), continues that tradition—marrying strong vocals with lyrical depth. Collaborations like Angel’s Share, featuring fiddle player Jeneé Fleenor, show his credibility within Nashville’s circles while keeping a style true to his Missouri roots.

Life Between Fire and Music

While many artists spend every waking hour pursuing the next stage or recording session, Mounce stands out. He still puts on his firefighter gear when duty calls. This balance between service and music has become an integral part of his identity. Fans connect not only with his music but also with the person behind it: authentic, hardworking, and grounded.

“It’s who I am,” he has stated in interviews. “I’m proud of being from Pleasant Hill. It keeps me grounded when I’m in Nashville or performing on the road.”

Back to the Fairgrounds

This fall, Friday, October 3, 2025, 7:00–11:00 PM (CDT) at Cass County Fairgrounds, 308 W. Commercial St., Pleasant Hill, MO – Mounce returns home to perform. For many in the community, it’s more than just a concert; it’s a homecoming. The chance to see a neighbor, a firefighter, and a hometown success story take the stage where he first dreamed big.

Building a Following

With nearly ten years of songwriting experience, Hunter has built a loyal fan base on various streaming platforms. His music is available on Apple Music, Spotify, and other platforms, and he frequently draws large crowds to his shows in Missouri and Tennessee. On social media, he is approachable and relatable, often interacting directly with his fans.

But ask anyone who knows him, and they’ll say his success isn’t just about streams or stages. It’s about representing Pleasant Hill with pride—carrying a piece of home with him wherever he goes.

The Road Ahead

Hunter Mounce isn’t slowing down. His 2023 album Right Where We Left Off cemented his reputation as a songwriter on the rise, and with new singles like Good as Gone already out, it’s clear there’s more to come.

For Pleasant Hill, he is more than a musician. He is proof that stories told on porches, in firehouses, and at local fairs can resonate far beyond small-town borders. His songs speak to what it means to work hard, dream big, and stay true to your roots.

And as long as there’s a stage, whether in Nashville or at the Cass County Fairgrounds, Hunter Thomas Mounce will keep telling those stories.
