If you’ve been looking for a reason to get out of the house, Pleasant Hill is making it pretty easy over the next couple of weekends.
There are bubbles for the kids, golf for the grown-ups, plants for the gardeners, a rodeo at the fairgrounds, auditions for local actors and, before the month gets too far along, a murder mystery and a city-wide hunt for garage-sale treasures.
The fun starts Thursday evening, Sept. 10, when the Cub Scouts bring The Bubble Guy to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Children in kindergarten through fifth grade and their families are invited for an hour of bubbles, laughter, and probably a few tricks that will leave the adults wondering how he did that. The program runs from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the church, 1300 Lexington.
By Friday, the bubbles give way to birdies — or at least attempts at them.
The Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce Annual Fall Golf Tournament takes over Hoots Hollow Golf Course Sept. 11. Registration and lunch begin at 11 a.m., followed by a noon tee time. The annual tournament combines an afternoon of golf with a chance for local business owners and community members to spend some time together away from work.
Saturday may require a little more planning because several events are competing for your attention.
Plant lovers can head to Paula’s Petals Greenhouse & Floral for its fourth anniversary celebration. The greenhouse at 33607 E. 199th St. will be filled with more than plants from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be free tacos, drinks, and dessert, a floral bar, and 25% off everything in the greenhouse. The celebration continues Sunday during the same hours, so there are two chances to stop by.
Meanwhile, Pleasant Hill’s theatre community is already thinking about Christmas.
A second round of auditions for Grandpa’s Holly-Jolly Christmas will be held Saturday at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Auditions are scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. and again from 6 to 8 p.m.
Then, Saturday night, the action moves to the Cass County Fairgrounds, where Midwest Roughstock Rodeo returns to Pleasant Hill as part of its 2026 We’re Back Tour. The rodeo begins at 7 p.m., with vendors, food, and family entertainment joining the action in the arena.
And that’s just this weekend.
The following Friday and Saturday, Sept. 18 and 19, the Pleasant Hill Theatre Group will trade Christmas for crime with Murder on Maui. The dinner theatre murder mystery gives guests dinner and a live whodunit, with the mystery unfolding around them throughout the evening.
Saturday, Sept. 19, also brings one of those Pleasant Hill events where you never quite know what you’re going to come home with.
The Fall City-Wide Garage Sale begins at 8 a.m., with sales scattered throughout town. Residents holding sales can register to be included on the official map and description list, while shoppers can spend the morning making their way from driveway to driveway looking for bargains.
So maybe the question for the next couple of weekends isn’t whether there’s anything to do in Pleasant Hill.
It’s whether you can fit it all in.
